IS Aix-en-Provence is a French as a Foreign Language (FLE) school located in Aix-en-Provence, in the south of France. Since 1972, we have welcomed adults from all over the world who wish to learn or improve their French in an international, friendly and supportive learning environment.

Each year, more than 1,000 learners from over 40 nationalities attend our French courses to achieve their personal, academic or professional goals.

Our Learning Objectives

Our courses aim to develop French communication skills in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Learners work on the following skills:

  • Written expression;
  • Grammar and vocabulary;
  • Communication in professional or everyday contexts.
Courses are offered from complete beginner level to C2 level.

Our French Language Teaching Method

We favour a communicative approach that encourages the active use of French from the very first day.
Courses take place in small groups in order to encourage interaction, participation and individual support.

Our teaching methodology is based on:

  • Real-life communication situations;
  • Group discussions and debates;
  • Role plays and simulations;
  • Oral presentations;
  • Authentic materials (articles, videos, podcasts, newspapers and digital resources);
  • Active learner participation.
Our objective is to enable each student to quickly gain confidence, independence and fluency in both spoken and written French.

Assessment and Monitoring of Learning Progress

Before arrival, students take an online placement test to determine their level. On their first day at the school, they also participate in an oral assessment, allowing us to confirm their level and place them in the most suitable class.
Throughout the course, our teachers assess students’ progress and support them in achieving their objectives.
At the end of their stay, students receive a certificate of attendance and level. Students may also prepare for and take various official French examinations, including the DELF, DALF and TCF.
A Qualified and Experienced Team
Our teaching team is made up of teachers qualified in French as a Foreign Language and experienced in teaching French to an international audience. To ensure consistently high teaching standards, our teachers regularly participate in professional development and training activities. Our administrative team supports students before their arrival and throughout their stay with matters relating to:
